Salve, ho installato slackware 12.2 sul mio portatile. Ho installato il driver NVIDIA 180.22 e va tutto bene, direct rendering yes da glxinfo e glxgears sui 1700 fps. Solo che ognittanto mi succede che l'immagine è traslata verso destra di qualche pixel (dovrebbero essere una decina, perchè è paragonabile alla mie icone del kicker che sono 16x16). Può essere che ho sbagliato qualcosa nella configurazione di Xorg.conf? All'avvio va tutto bene, succede in un momento all'apparenza random. Allego il mio xorg.conf per vedere se ho sbagliato qualcosa. Grazie anticipatamente per l'aiuto.

Non so se per i portatili esistono i pulsantini di controllo del monitor; in caso affermativo, dovrebbe essere presente anche il tasto AUTO che centra automaticamente il monitor.

Inoltre, guardando il tuo xorg.conf noto che lo hai modificato manualmente.
Avresti dovuto rispondere YES quando, alla fine dell'installazione del driver, ti è stato chiesto se intendevi modificare automaticamente xorg.conf.

Prova adesso da root a lanciare il programma nvidia-xconfig

no, quei pulsanti non esistono. non è che l'ho configurato a mano... dopo aver installato i driver ho preferito sempre fare la creazione dell'xorg.conf tramite xorgconfig. comunque, anche facendo così la situazione non cambia.... :(

Prova a commentare le righe relative alle frequenze del monitor... Al 90 % dovrebbe andare tutto senza problemi!!

Curiosità... Com'è che hai il modulo DRI commentato ed hai direct rendering??

non so perchè... nonostante avevo il modulo dri disattivato, glxinfo mi diceva direct rendering Yes. ho risolto comunque cambiando screensaver. se lo screensaver è OpenGL, mi trasla il monitor. metto "[RISOLTO....o quasi]" giusto perchè con gli screensaver openGL non succede?

Non credo proprio che il problema possa definirsi risolto; se con applicazioni OpenGL la schermata risulta traslata, allora il problema c'è, eccome!

Si potrebbe provare ad usare un driver meno recente.

P.S. Il driver nVidia usa un proprio DRI, per cui quello di Mesa deve essere disattivato; è normale quindi che glxinfo dica "Direct Rendering: Yes" (significa che l'accelerazione grafica sta funzionando correttamente).

quindi il dri di xorg.conf lo posso lasciare disattivato... per il driver proverò una versione meno recente, anche se x l'uso che devo fare io può anche rimanere così. non ho applicazioni opengl da caricare

Quando si usano i driver nVidia, il DRI di xorg.conf deve essere rigorosamente disattivato.

Tornando al tuo xorg.conf, nella Section "Monitor" noto questa riga molto strana in quanto specifica una serie di frequenze "minime":

Secondo me ti conviene specificare il valore minimo e il valore massimo, come hai fatto per VertRefresh; il driver nVidia è in grado di selezionare automaticamente i valori più adatti, purché siano giusti i range da te indicati per HorizSynch e VertRefresh.
Dovresti trovare quei valori nel manuale del tuo laptop.
