Come ho detto, il file di configurazione di Xorg si chiama xorg.conf. Se manca questo file il server X prova ad autoconfigurarsi, e quindi in questo caso è possibile che vengano utilizzati i driver VESA. Fai una prova se non ti fidi, sposta quel file da qualche altra parte (ad esempio in /tmp) e vedrai che Xorg partirà lo stesso e con le stesse caratteristiche.

Non c'è nessun link di mezzo... È un semplicissimo file di esempio per configurare X in modo che usi vesa come driver video. Viene installato col pacchetto x11-skel.Procopio ha scritto:quindi xorg.conf-vesa deve essere linkato da qualche parte come dici tu!

/etc/X11/xorg.conf-vesa NON viene pescato da X se non esistono /etc/X11/xorg.conf oppure file .conf all'interno di /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/.
Se nessun file di configurazione è presente, X si arrangia e si autoconfigura tramite udev.
Se hai rimosso xorg.conf e non ci sono file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, allora X si autoconfigura col driver che ritiene più idoneo. Per capire quale driver ha usato, consulta il log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log).

Premesso questo, sappi che la serie 8X00 della Nvidia ha sofferto per la scelta di materiali sbagliati a monte, facendo in modo che molta gente si ritrovasse, dopo un po' di tempo, con vari tipi di problemi a video.
Esiste anche una pagina della sony che tratta l'argomento, ma la tua serie di portatili non è riportata...

per la visualizzazione del log avevo dato io il comando sbagliato, ecco il file...
in etc/x11/xorg.conf.d c'è solo un file che non mi sembra c'entri nulla:
comunque, mi avete convinto, deve essere la mia scheda video rotta

Coi nouveau si ripresenta il fenomeno della corruzione della schermata?
Se la situazione è come ho ipotizzato in precedenza, i problemi dovrebbero manifestarsi soprattutto quando la scheda è sotto sforzo e la sua temperatura aumenta.
Non so a che livello i nouveau sfruttino l'accelerazione grafica, ma potresti fare delle prove con dei giochi 3D oppure salvaschermi 3D "impegnativi".

allora, con il driver vesa questo fenomeno di corruzione della schermata è totalmente assente. Ora ho provato a far girare salvaschermi 3D (quelli che ci sono di default però, non ne ho scaricati) e il movimento è fluidissimo, non c'è ovviamente alcuna corruzione. La grafica non è quella della xbox su una televisione led ultraspinta, ma da 0 a 10 gli darei un bel 7 anche 7.5, diciamo così:)

quando nvidia ti dice vuoi che blacklist i noveau,tu dici si, devi riavviare ,poi installi i driver video e salva anche la vecchia configurazione, con i noveau inseriti la schermata a un certo punto cambia i caratteri,sono piccolissimi

comunque non e' tanto che ho cambiato una nvidia geforce 7900gs a me la corruzione la dava partendo dal boot caratteri strani coppie di a righine blue e via cosi fino a schermate a bande tutte colorate,e nessun controllo.

perche puoi farlo anche dopo il log in e prima di startx con questo comando da console nvidia-xconfig

puoi cosi e puoi dal nvidia control center, che se cambi risoluzione o altro e applichi poi puoi salvare il file, automaticamente lo salva in /etc/ x11

i driver fanno un modulo che e' collegato al kernel che usi, se per caso cambi kernel, oppure ricompili e' obbligatorio rifare quel modulo con l'installazione dei driver, i vesa sono dei generici che non ti tradiscono mai il desktop c'e' sempre. a risoluzioni basse pero'.
