dopo aver seguito il prima passaggio (a) e vad oa compilare ho i problemi: cosa devo inserire al posto di pathtosource?
se do un semplice make senza parametri ottengo questo:

Niente, neanche a me ha compilato, solo che mi ha dato errori diversi dai tuoi.
Mi sono ricordato però che la tua scheda è ottima per sniffare pacchetti e per decriptare reti wireless. Così sono andato in questo sito:

e, per quanto riguarda la tua scheda, ho trovato questo driver:

che a me ha compilato senza errori.

si avevo letto anche io quelal pagina tempo fa e hoi deciso di prendere il chip ralink proprio perchè ha driver pienamente supportati e addirittura consigliati.. (e poi mi è costata poco); solo che il link sul sito risultava errato. ora provo poi ti faccio sapere!!

bene! per la compilazione tutto ok!! ti posso chiedere una cosa.. che tipo di file è un modulo? è un oggetto? cioè.. in sostanza cos'è che ho installato e in che directory è stato instalalto?

Il modulo è il risultato di una compilazione. in effetti è un object-file (precisamente un elf), infatti una volta, nei kernel precedenti aveva estensione .o, dal kernel 2.6 invece hanno introdotto il tipo di estensione .ko (kernel object).
Il tuo modulo in particolare si chiama:
Il comando
che hai eseguito non ha fatto altro che copiare il file rt2500.ko nella directory
dove il comando `uname -r` restituisce la versione del kernel corrente (che nel tuo caso è 2.6.17.13).
Ha inoltre creato degli alias per il nome del modulo inserendo nel file
la seguente riga:
ed infine ha eseguito il comando
per ricreare le dipendenze dei moduli. Come conseguenza di ciò, i comandi:
e
sono identici ed entrambi caricano il modulo (nel tuo caso):
in memoria.
