Beryl, Compiz-fusion: what confusion!

Con slack 11 impazzivo, ma appena è stata rilasciata slack 12 mi son detto:
- "wow, adesso tutto sarà una boot-tanata!
...mi sbagliavo. Infatti, nonostante non abbia trovato particolari difficoltà (grazie anche alla giusta conf del mio xorg.conf, dovuta al prezioso aiuto di anycolouryoulike, che ringrazio),
incorro in continui crash del sistema. Per non parlare del cubo che diventa millerighe. Da cosa può dipendere? Da un particolare Plugin non supportato? Bho!
La seguente cosa avviene con Compiz-fusion e col meno recente Beryl
Hardware utilizzato:
- Intel Pentium4 2.0GHz
- Ati Radeon 8500 (open source driver R200)

Ma tu ad ogni modo consigli beryl o compiz-fusion? Con quale delle due hai avuto miglior esperienza in termini di stabilità?

ah si latua guida per la conf avanzata di X. A dire la verità non l'ho seguita fino in fondo, ma mi guardero bene dal non farlo.

beryl dicono che è consigliato per sistemi un po' più datati perchè richiede meno risorse. dato che tu non rientri tra questi io ti consiglio compiz-fusion perchè beryl non è più sviluppato come progetto a sè stante.

quello è solo un warning che rappresenta un bug del driver, comunque non è un problema.
lla stabilità di questi compositing window managers dipende anche dalla versione del driver.
come mai hai quel decremento di prestazioni con glxgears? che operazioni fai mentre glxgears è attivo?

è un comportamento anomalo. dovrebbe essere molto più costante e coerente con le operazioni che stai facendo.
postami le caratteristiche della tua scheda.
casomai con lspci -vv (ma solo relative alla tua scheda video)
controlla eventuali processi anomali con il comando
posta il comando
ti conviene fare una prova mentre tieni sotto controllo con top i processi, di glxgears per vedere se è lui anche se dubito.
non mi viene in mente altro per ora

come mai hai quel decremento di prestazioni con glxgears? che operazioni fai mentre glxgears è attivo?
Attenzione sempre che non ci siano conflitti di interrupts...tipico il caso, con nvidia, che il driver video condivida l'interrupt magari con la scheda di rete. Il decremento prestazionale è percepibile anche aprendo una finestra.

boh non saprei, prova senza beryl attivo così almeno circoscriviamo il problema. dicci se hai crash e glxgears ha decrementi prestazionali, ma testalo per un po.
