Dopo un po' che stato usando il pc la risoluzione impazzisce ed il desktop si vede come diviso a metà?

Possibile che sia perchè ho disattivato dal kernel rivafb ed ho lasciato solo il VESA framebuffer??

Il fatto è che se riattivo rivafb perdo il bootsplash.

Da quello che dici, il problema si presenta nella console??!!?!?!?!?
Se no, allora il rivafb non credo c'entri, ma devi indagare riguardo ai driver di X (nv o nvidia).

Allora ho una Nvidia 7900GS, driver 1.0-9755, il problema mi si presenta in X

Per farvi capire:
Ho un pannello di kicker in verticale sulla destra. Quando la risoluzione impazzisce questo si ritrova al centro e le finestre si trovano spezzate tra la parte destra e la sinistra.
Ovviamente i riferimenti del cursore del mouse restano quelli precedenti.

Il problema si presenta anche se non uso compiz.
Se chiudo la sessione la shell la vedo normale.

comunque ho sistemato il bootsplash, rivafb l'ho tolto dal kernel.
ma il problema si presenta comunque.

Adesso vedo un po' se nv o nvidia è nel kernel.

ti spiega tutto. Per esser brevi comunque, se rivafb è veramente il driver giusto per la tua scheda video, ti basta compilarlo staticamente nel kernel distattivando gli altri driver, fra cui vesafb, quindi impostarlo correttamente come spiegato nella guida di cui sopra (con i giusti parametri dentro lilo).

Per quanto riguarda bootsplash, resisti, sto per pubblicare i pacchetti per usare fbsplash.

Sul problema di X, credo dipenda da altro. Posta qui il tuo xorg.conf ed il file di log, insieme ad un lspci ed un lsmod, e vediamo.

sono stanco ed è tardi, quindi magari se ne parla domani, ma già di primo acchito posso dirti che per quanto riguarda il framebuffer devi usare nvidiafb e non rivafb. Tra l'altro, nvidiafb supporta chipset <= al 7900, per cui dovresti esserci dentro d'un soffio. Se non va, usa vesafb od uvesafb come spiegato nel wiki.

Ho ricompilato il kernel(ne ho approfittato per mettere il 2.6.23.

, ho caricato vesafb il framebuffer funziona e anche bootsplash, quindi direi che per il framebuffer sono apposto.

Ora verifico se il problema della risoluzione impazzita (in X) persiste (ho aggiornato i driver nVidia (ver. 100.14.23).
