[X] aggiornamento 10.2 -> 12

Se avete problemi con l'installazione e la configurazione di Slackware postate qui. Non usate questo forum per argomenti generali... per quelli usate Gnu/Linux in genere.

Regole del forum
1) Citare sempre la versione di Slackware usata, la versione del Kernel e magari anche la versione della libreria coinvolta. Questi dati aiutano le persone che possono rispondere.
2) Per evitare confusione prego inserire in questo forum solo topic che riguardano appunto Slackware, se l'argomento è generale usate il forum Gnu/Linux in genere.
3) Leggere attentamente le risposte ricevute.

La non osservanza delle regole porta a provvedimenti di vari tipo da parte dello staff, in particolare la non osservanza della regola 5 porta alla cancellazione del post e alla segnalazione dell'utente. In caso di recidività l'utente rischia il ban temporaneo.

salve a tutti!

il problema che ho avuto nel passare sul portatile (acer travelmate 260) dalla slackware 10.2 alla 12 è il seguente: il server X non ne vuole sapere di funzionare. Ho utilizzato lo stesso xorg.conf che utilizzavo sulla 10.2 e ho dato il comando "startx": KDE si avvia, ossia sento la musichetta di avvio, ma lo schermo resta invariabilmente nero. Terminare il server grafico non serve a niente: vedo ombre che si muovono, ma non riesco più a tornare alla shell testuale.

Ho provato ad utilizzare il driver "specifico" (i810) e il driver generico vesa, ma il risultato non cambia.

Qualche suggerimento?

Non so se può esserti utile, ma nell'UPGRADE.TXT della 12 c'era scritto:
You will need to generate a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf file after upgrading

Per questi passaggi così "violenti" dovresti passare da 10.2 a 11.0 leggendo il file che ti hanno segnalato e poi da 11.0 a 12.0 (non ricordo se c'è stata una 11.1 ma mi pare di no, comunque nel caso 11.0--> 11.1 --> 12.0) sennò di sicuro molte cose non andranno. Parecchi pacchetti sono stati sostituiti da altri, quindi leggi l'UPGRADE.TXT delle versioni intermedie per il passaggio. Anche a me non andava + l'xorg perché non avevo installato tutto quello che era richiesto.

Io non l'ho fatto per esempio.
L'importante è capire cosa cambia, percorsi dei font, driver, etc...
Ma xorgconf o chi per lui mi sa da sempre solo casino :-(

Per il discorso dei passaggi intermedi in effetti, vale soprattutto per i pacchetti orfani o come vogliamo chiamarli.
A volte meglio una reinstallazione ex-novo dopo un bel backup
Ma io la 11 non l'ho mai installata, passai dalla 10.2 alla current poco prima della 12

non è il caso, si può tranquillamente passare dalla 10 alla 12; quello che avrei fatto se fossi tiferet è, prima di upgradare tutti i pacchetti con i nuovi, backuppare e cancella re l'intera directory /etc/X11 in modo da non mischiare i files vecchi con i nuovi; questo perchè il server X è la parte più delicata del passaggio.

Comunque tiferet puoi farlo anche adesso: backuppa e cancella /etc/X11 e poi reinstalla xorg e i pacchetti correlati (oppure automaticamente tutti i pacchetti della serie x/)

Una precisazione: in realtà non ho fatto un "aggiornamento" nel senso stretto della parola; più precisamente ho piallato la partizione / (previo backup della /etc) e installato la slackware 12. Ad ogni modo posto il file xorg.conf e il log di X, non metterli è stata una dimenticanza...

Dai 'Xorg -configure', in genere azzecca la configurazione. Poi se vuoi aggiungere qualcosa modifica quello.

Proverò a dare Xorg -configure e vi farò sapere il risultato.

Riguardo tutte quelle frequenze di VertRefresh... beh, quella era una prova di disperazione: i valori antichi erano 90,75, "sandra" mi dica che dovrebbe 87 e windows funziona con 60 Hz, quindi li ho messi tutti e quattro.

Attento. i 60hz di Windows non hanno niente a che vedere con le VertRefresh, che devono essere due, minimo e massimo.
Io ho

VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0

ed ho 75hz su X e 60 su Windows.

Poi al limite aggiusti con xvidtune e le modline, ma guarda il manuale che valori ti consiglia.

il problema è proprio questo: non ho alcun manuale tecnico di questo computer. Il manuale scarcabile online dal sito della acer è una specie di guida per decerebrati, spiega nei minimi dettagli come fare cose ovvie ma neanche una riga di dettagli tecnici. I vecchi valori che avevo con la Slackware 10.2 li avevo trovati ravanando su google per un giorno intero e non mi ricordo enanche dove (colpa mia, dovevo prendere un appunto)

Devi cercare in rete allora chi ha qualcosa di simile al tuo. Al limite prova valori bassissimi e dopo aggiusti a mano tramite xvidtune.

ho provato a dare "Xorg -configure" ma non funziona: lo schermo resta nero e non si sente neanche la musica di avvia di kde. Si ottengono risultati migliori con xorgcfg: viene caricato anche il modulo DRI ma lo schermo sempre nero resta.

Ma secondo voi è un problema derivante solo da errati valori di HorizSync e VertRefresh? Ma allora perché con la 10.2 funzionavano?

X -configure
dovrebbe configurarti il file senza entrare in X. Dopo lo guardi e lo modiichi al caso tuo. Prima fatti un backup
