ciao a tutti,
ho ricompilato il kernel originale di slackware 2.6.29.6-smp cambiando l'impostazione del processo e togliendo i moduli per dell e ibm (già che c'ero). ora, se riavvio con il mio nuovo kernel, tutto ok. se avvio con quello vecchio, vedo questo nel dmseg che non mi torna

ho il dubbio di aver fatto questo casino: avendo ricompilato il kernel nella directory /usr/src/linux che puntava al kernel 2.6.29.6-smp che avevo in uso, temo che il vmlinuz-2.6.29.6-smp che usavo prima non andasse più bene per quello, è così? quindi per provare core2 devo ricompilare un kernel di versione diversa?

Allora hai sovrascritto i moduli di /lib/modules con la tua configurazione. È normale che ti dia errori su vmlinuz generati per altre aspettative di compilazione.
Perché non hai provato con un kernel diverso?

puoi, ma se va stroto qualcosa ti freghi un kernel funzionante e devi ripiallare tutto....meglio usare un kernel differente oppure lo chiami in 2 modi diversi con 2 vmlinuz diversi

Si pero' se usi i moduli per non sovrascrivere quelli installati, dopo aver dato make xconfig devi selezionare Impostazioni generali -> Versione Locale - aggiungi al rilascio del kernel e modificare la stringa (di default vuota) aggiungendo una o piu' lettere.
Così se ad esempio inserisci "-test" i moduli verrano installati in /lib/modules/2.6.29.6-test.

vabbe', quindi posso eliminare tutti i vmlnuz, config e system map vecchi e tenere solo i miei ricompilati, tanto gli altri sono fottuti, no? e in fondo i cambiamenti sono così pochi che non dovrei avere guai.

grazie. ho rimosso huge, mentre l'altro non so, è quello che ho ricompilato, quindi se rimuove con removepkg non mi frego il kernel?
inoltre, sto provando con dempode -a a caircare il modulo per il wireless ma ora mi dice che non trova il comando. basta riavviare?

Dipende, se il nome del file del nuovo kernel è uguale a quello vecchio si, altrimenti no. Normalemente dopo che si ricompila il kernel, questo lo si installa in /boot come bzImage e quindi anche se rimuovi l'altro pacchetto non dovresti perdere niente. Per essere sicuro dovresti postare l'output di 'ls /boot'.
