Wireless Slackware 13

ciao a tutti, sono praticamente nuovo nel mondo di linux (ho usato per un po ubuntu ma non lo simpatizzavo molto), e ho deciso di provare la distro Slackware (versione 13).
Ora, sono sicuro che nel forum ci sia già un topic simile ma...
come lo collego a internet?
googlando ho trovato alcune guide ma estremamente confusionarie, molte delle quali rivolte a utenti esperti, quindi non ho capito molto..
vi chiedo per cortesia di aiutarmi, anche linkandomi una guida per "dummies" (ho preso da questo forum Slackware for dummies, ma nella sezione wireless non ho capito molto..).
Il pc dove è installato è un asus eeepc 1008h..

be intanto benvenuto.
dovresti per prima cosa, indcare il tuo dispositivo con cui ti colleghi. Cosi capiamo meglio quale potrebbero essere i problemi.

ho un router Digicom, vorrei collegarmi via wireless, la scheda wireless del netbook è con il chipset Atheros AR9285

prova a postare ora (sempre da root) gli output di iwconfig e lspci -v

dai un bel ifconfig wlan0 up, sempre da root

si questo col tutorial lo avevo già fatto, ma per connettermi alla rete?
avevo fatto un comando tipo:
iwconfig wlan0 mode manage channel 1 essid"mia rete"
ma.. oltre che se lo faccio con la wlan0 up mi dice dispositivo occupato, quindi l'ho fatto tenendo wlan0 down, e poi da attivato non cambiava nulla...
dovrei anche mettere la chiave di rete..

Installa wicd dalla dir "extra" del cd di installazione di slackware e usa quello.

credo che mi ucciderete ma... non so come installarlo.____.
ho messo il cd e copiato wicd sul desktop, quando ho fatto doppio click mi è partita l'installazione di kgpg, un software per la cifratura...

lol, ci ero appena riuscito in una maniera estremamente più complessa..
upgradepkg lo cerca automaticamente nel pc?
io avevo copiato in una directory, andato nella directory con "cd" e una volta nella directory ho usato "installpkg wicd-1.6.2.1-i486-1 .-.
(chiedo il significato della tua stringa per poterla usare in futuro ^^") comunque ora vedo che riesco a combinare con la wireless

Il mio comando è simile a quello che hai usato tu: "upgradepkg --install-new" controlla se il pacchetto è già installato ed eventualmente lo aggiorna (se non è presente lo installa normalmente); mentre "installpkg" installa il pacchetto senza fare controlli su eventuali altre versioni già installate.

intendo.. io ho dovuto dare il percorso del pacchetto, quando comunque ho poi provato upgradepkg mi ha detto (giustamente) che era già installato, ma se non lo fosse stato avrei comunque dovuto dargli il percorso o lo avrebbe cercato lui?
per la wireless, wicd mi da l'errore "unable to get ip address", guardando le reti con iwlist wlan0 scan vedo che mode della mia rete è master, ma wlan0 è su managed, può essere questo? (dando iwconfig wlan0 mode master però non è un comando valido..)
*edit: come nome della rete wicd mi da "hidden"... e la mia rete non è nascosta
