scanner hp 3400c e slackware current

Ciao a tutti,
ecco il mio problema dopo l'ennesima formattazione ho reinstallato la slack 10.1 poi aggiornata nei pacchetti a current..
Problema lo scanner non va .. non andava nemmeno con la 10.1 speravo che la current facesse il miracolo .. ma nulla
faccio un sunto delle caratteristiche della linux box
kernel 2.6.12.3
gcc 3.4.4
passi eseguiti:
ho scaricato dal sito di sane il driver (niash) dopo ho compilato con un bel make
poi ho scaricato i sanebackend-1.0.15
ho patchato questi ultimi con niash come da doc...
risultato ..

xsane nn me lo riconosce nemmeno da root
