applicare patch al kernel

ciao ho ancora problemi ad applicare le patch.dunque è uscita la patch-2.6.26-rc9 la dovrei installare ho seguito i passi del wiki della community non funziona potete dirmi dove sbaglio?

Le patch del kernel sono progressive nel senso che non puoi applicare l'ultima se non hai applicato la penultima in ordine cronologico (pensiero contorto per dirti che devi applicarle tutte in maniera ordinata).
Sei sicuro che prima di quella che stai applicando non ci siano altre patch?
A giusto in caso non l'avessi letto quella è una prepatch
"Prepatches are the equivalent to alpha releases for Linux; they live in the testing directories in the archives. They should be applied using the patch(1) utility to the source code of the previous full release with a 3-part version number (for example, the 2.6.12-rc4 prepatch should be applied to the 2.6.11 kernel sources, not, for example, 2.6.11.10.)
The testing/incr directories contain automatically generated patches from one prepatch to another.
Prepatches may be poorly tested, and may in fact not work at all. Use on your own risk; if you use one and run into a problem please see Reporting Linux Kernel Bugs on the front page.
Prepatches with -rc in the name are considered release candidates and may become full versions. It is therefore particularly important that those get tested."
Quindi quella patch in teoria dovrebbe essere messa su un 2.6.25.

io ho il kernel-2.6.26-rc8, attualmente siamo alla rc9 il file l'ho scaricato da qui
http://www.eu.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/testing/ma li c'è scritto patch provi a dare un'occhiata perchè non credo di aver capito molto bene la differenza tra i vari kernel escluso stabile -rc, -git

Da quanto vedo su kernel.org il 2.6.26-rc9 è una prepatch.
In quanto tale deve essere applicata, cito testualmente,su "previous full release with a 3-part version number".
Il problema è che questa non è una patch normale ma appunto, una prepatch.
Le patch classiche possono e devono essere applicate sempre sulla release precedente.
Le -rc a quanto vedo no.

sono andato a vedere anche io non sono sicuro ma da quello che mi pare di aver capito in teoria le patch per la mia versione dovrebbero essere le -mm1 "è un casino" sono andato a vedere nel link di andrew dove dovresti prendere la 2.6.26-rc8-mm1 dovrebbe essere una patch sperimentale per la mia versione però come scarico il file mi da 2.6.26-rc8-mm1 e non patch-2.6.26-rc8-mm1 sono un po confuso

non vorrei che fosse un'altro kernel.non sono ancora riuscito a testare un kernel come dio comanda però dato che in una settimana ne avrò compilati 500 la compilazione mi sta riuscendo bene

Ti offendi se ti dico che non ho capito una mazza? Prova a mettere qualche virgola e qualche punto ogni tanto.
Comunque se proprio non hai strette esigenze in termini di compatibilità hw e non sei uno sviluppatore perchè andarsi a impelagare nelle -rc?
Se vuoi un consiglio resta sul vanilla stable che in genere assicura stabilità e prestazioni.

inux ma perché cerchi sempre di fare cose del genere? Nel senso di poco comuni se non per sviluppatori del kernel o beta tester incalliti.
Hai qualche esigenza particolare (driver che non funzionano, etc...) che ti porta a fare questo o è per divertimento/didattica?
Nel secondo caso mi sembra il minimo leggere qualcosa prima e capire il funzionamento di queste patch.
Quel che vuoi fare tu è applicare una patch progressiva, quindi scarica

quella che in kernel.org viene visualizzata alla voce VI (view incremental)
come ti hanno detto quella che hai scaricato tu va applicata a sorgenti del 2.6.25

lo so, devo capire bene come funziona.Intanto vedo di installarmi la patch che non l'ho mai fatto,poi provvederò a capire bene il funzionamento.Si è puramente per didattica e forse un po meno per divertimento anche perchè è abbastanza "pesante, difficile" però mi piace, ne pago il prezzo.

ciao, riapro questo post perchè vorrei capire come mai alcune patch vengono installate e altre no. Ho kernel-2.6.26-rc9-git1, git1 l'ho patchato ne ho 10 da fare tuttavia la prima è andata in porto almeno credo come installo la seconda patch mi da:
