A scanso di equivoci, il pacchetto skipe del repo di slacky 14.1 avrebbe da solo tutto ciò che occorre perchè skype funzioni ?
Non bisogna fare altro?
Ad esempio configurare qualche altro pezzo?

Si, ha tutto le dipendenze, inizia ad installarlo poi si vedrà se va modificata qualche impostazione.

Prova a lanciare da linea di comando
/usr/share/skype/bin/pulseaudio
senza parametri; non dovrebbe restituire il prompt; premi ctrl+c e posta l'output.
Ma stai avviando skype come root o come utente?

Alla faccia...
Lasciamo stare l'avvio da root almeno per ora.
Temporaneamente toglia il file da modprobe (e rebootta). Dopo ce lo rimetti o usi una soluzione alternativa.
Edita il .asoundrc, commenta la prima configurazione e decommenta la seconda.
Poi vediamo che dice pulseaudio e dopo decidiamo.

No, non dovrebbe avere alcuna rilevanza. Anche io ho un setup analogo.
Al limite togli:
in quanto superfluo.
Poi controlla che in '/proc/asound/cards' le periferiche audio siano 'ordinate' correttamente (la intel prima della cam).

per farlo funzionare di default col microfono della webcam logitech usb esterna ho leggermente editato lo ~/.asoundrc che mi genera, decommentando uno degli esempi: di default e' cosi'

Prova questo, giusto per capire dove sta il problema:
1 - chiudi skype e termina pulseaudio se ancora in esecuzione;
2 - apri il file /usr/share/skype/etc/pulse/default.pa
3 - commenta queste righe
