Some packages...

Hello and I hope some of you here can speak English...
Because I can't speak Italian
First I want to say... Great site and great package support! Better than linuxpackages.net!
I want to request some packages made on a Slackware 10.2 system...
I really need new MPlayer, MPlayer Codecs, Adobe Reader, Valknut, DCLib, SuperKaramba 0.3.7 RC2, Opera 8.50...
And second... I have a small question about your great and new packages. What about the dependancies? They are mentioned on a few packages only. For example - amaroK 1.3.2 here hasn't any requirements mentioned. And another amaroK 1.3.2 package on Linuxpackages.net requires libtunepimp and libmuzicbrainz. But the two reqirements are mentioned there...
Here we have mentioned... Zero requirements. So does it mean that your package do NOT require those?
It was just an example, but requirements are good to be mentioned. It is too bad if you just download a package and it doesn't want to run with a message like:
Cannot find shared object/file lib_whatever
Or something like that

So it was just my tought! This site is perfect anyway... Too bad that I can't speak Italian

Keep doing this great job! And greetings from Bulgaria!
Victor

Hi, welcome.
I totally agree with you on the speech of dependancies. However you can solve the problem looking for the various requests dependancies in the site. The list is really wide and you should find all what you need. Seeing people that follow us also from Bulgaria is really a pleasure and I think that all the community think this. For the mentioned packages don't worry. You'll see that they are brought up to date soon.

Packages like MPlayer & MPlayer codecs are already available on this site. Just browse the download section and I'll find them. You can say the same for other packages, like Valknut... Opera is a proprietary browser, so why don't download it from opera site and install it through its own installer? And there are also mozilla, firefox and dillo, which are freeware and GPL close... so use them! :-P
The dependancies are not the well developed part of slackware, as you know... However, swaret can help you installing packages solving the trouble of dependancies. When it fails, it says you what's missing, so you can search for it yourself. And that's all...

I would just like to add that most of the packages for 10.1 (and even for previous releases) will work on 10.2 as well, so try those.
Oh, and welcome to the forum! I think you're the first foreigner posting here

Thank you very much! I am happy that you speak English also... And thanks for the quick replies
About Swaret... I think I saw that you like it here. But I have another favourite - Slapt-get
And about the packages... These that I am speaking about are made on a 10.1 system. I know I can use almost all of them, but I am a kind of a maniac

I prefer to have them made on a stock 10.2 system. Just a Slackware maniac... That's all
About the dependancies... It's good that there is an info here on the site. You'll make me start learning Italian language

My idea was... They maybe should be mentioned in the SlackBuild file. And I gave an example... amaroK 1.3.2 in .tgz format downloaded from linuxpackages.net requires 2 libs - muzicbrainz and tunepimp. And it is written in the description of the package. So I want amaroK - I read the description and I know what else do I need for this package to work. That was the idea. I can see here the last version of amaroK also... But I am not sure does this package require the same libs or not...
Anyway on linuxpackages.net there is a description. But you are faster with the new versions of the software. You are more... up-to-date!
So I am glad that I found this site!
Cheers!
PS: By the way there is a newer wxGTK version... 2.6.2. And one more package - Azureus... Thanks in advance!

Hi to you and welcome!
Sometimes dependencies depend from the library
which the package is built with. For instance,
you can build K3B with musicbrainz support or without.
They maybe should be mentioned in the SlackBuild file
The most correct way is adding to the package
a file called
slack-requested
which tells you the not standard package/ (ot not present
in a clear Slack installation) you need
Hi!

Hi!!
If you want a package for Slack 10.2 you can take from this site the Slackbuild, the Slack-desc and the source code...and you can compile it by yourself! That could be a solution... :P

Thank you again! You are great, you packages also... Well there is one thing I did not understand...
I have amaroK 1.3.2 from linuxpackages.net. It requires libmusicbrainz and libtunepimp.
What about the package here?
I mean your package on this site... Does it have the same requirements?

If u read the download page of Amarok
http://www.slacky.it/index.php?option=c ... t=category
u'll note that there's no dependency mentioned.
That package was compiled without external libreries.
So u don't need them. If u need them, u can dowload
the SlackBuild and recompile it for your architecture
with your personal flag.

Thanks again! And one last question...
I just want to understand these dependancies things. Because I am a newbie... So let's cotinue with the amaroK example.
So I decided to download the amaroK 1.3.2 from here. As you said, there are not such reqirements like the amaroK package from linuxpackages.net... Well this part I understand. And I think it also means that your package will have less functions because of the fact that it's made withOUT those dependances.
But my question is: If I use your package and one day decide to use these extra features... Can I just add these required libs? Like libmusicbrainz in my example?
Ot even if I install this musicbrainz package, I still wont be able to use these extra features?
That's why maybe I need a package like the one on linuxpackages.net wich has a built-in option for these features...
Well don't get me wrong. I like all packages here. I just can't fully understand the whole idea. I hope you understood my question

of course u have to compile again your program or upgrade your package (just writing "upgradepkg pkgname.tgz" as root, u know) with a new one compiled with the new libraries.
otherwise, if u consider modular programs, like k3b i think, when u add new programs to your linux-box, the software itself is able to use new functionalities, as it recognise the new software installed. so my answer should be: "It depends from the software"

So I guess I understand your answer... It really depends on the package. But in that case with amaroK... If the use the one here and even I decide to install Musicbrainz later... It still won't be able to use these extra features. So if I need /want/ them, I have to use the other one from linuxpackages.net. Right?

Yes, because Amarok doesn't foresight modularity.
So if I need /want/ them, I have to use the other one from linuxpackages.net. Right?
Yes, but u have another chance. I don't like so much
packages from Linuxpackages, because, in the most part
of the cases, u don't know the flag uset to compile them.
So, u can download from slacky the SlackBuild,
install the library u want/neet in your system,
and recompile the package with the flag u want
for your system.

Thank you so much! So good answers, so fast... My last question:
What do you mean by flag? What does it mean?

they r something like options u give to ur compilator, to optimize the risult.
