Da notare che arch l'avevo installata prima.
Dopo aver installato slack ed il suo grub, quando faccio avviare arch al secondo 12 parte un "job" di 1.30 di verifica disco che dura ogni volta 1.30 (prima dell'installazione di slack non accadeva).
Ecco invece il risultato di free di arch (dalla shell di login, prima dell'avvio di X):

Ponce, io non so forse leggere bene i dati: mi fermavo alla prima riga, dove leggendo total, used e free sembra dire che arch usa meno ram.
Comunque a me quello che interessa è sapere quale delle due distribuzioni potrebbe rendere meglio sul pc che ho intenzione di usare.
Non si tratta di quello dove ho per adesso installato e che ha generato i risultati di dmes e free che ho postato, ma del vecchio pentium III 800 Mhz con 700 Mb di RAM, di cui accennavo ad inizio post: una macchina di circa 20 anni ma che ancora regge benissimo.
Slack la ammiro per la sua solidità. In più ci sono affezionato perché è stata la prima distro su cui ho fatto esperienza di linux.
Arch la avevo già provata sul vecchio Pentium III e ci girava alla meraviglia, per l'uso d'ufficio cui è destinata a me ne bastava ed avanzava: poi, come ho accennato, dopo un aggiornamento malaccorto, il sistema si è compromesso.
In conclusione, se slack mi garantisse la stessa "leggerezza" e "velocità" (perdonami il termine atecnico ed empirico, ma non so come esprimermi diversamente) non esiterei ad installarcela perché ritengo che inconvenienti come quello appena riferito non dovrebbero accadere ed anche perché il tempo dell'installazione e della configurazione post-installazione, nel complesso è minore rispetto ad arch.
Altrimenti, mi riarmo di pazienza e ci rimetto arch.
Quello che mi gioverebbe sapere è se qualcuno di voi la risposta sa darmela in anticipo facendomi risparmiare tempo, altrimenti sperimento sul campo e pazienza...
