Se avete problemi con l'installazione e la configurazione di Slackware postate qui. Non usate questo forum per argomenti generali... per quelli usate Gnu/Linux in genere.
Regole del forum
1) Citare sempre la versione di Slackware usata, la versione del Kernel e magari anche la versione della libreria coinvolta. Questi dati aiutano le persone che possono rispondere.

3) Leggere attentamente le risposte ricevute.

La non osservanza delle regole porta a provvedimenti di vari tipo da parte dello staff, in particolare la non osservanza della regola 5 porta alla cancellazione del post e alla segnalazione dell'utente. In caso di recidività l'utente rischia il ban temporaneo.
Guarda.. ho provato a cercare all'infinito di risolvere questo problema ma niente da fare.. magari tu potresti essere più fortunato, ma la cosa più semplice da fare per te è abilitare il broadcasting dell'essid.. nasconderlo non rende in alcun modo più sicura la tua rete..

nascondere l'essid non serve a molto sul piano della sicurezza in quanto, anche se nascosto, è possibile individuarlo. Io di solito preferisco i filtri sui MAC address, ma non sempre è possibile farlo. Comunque se già utilizzi una buona chiave WPA o WPA2 ( il WEP te lo sconsiglio) ed effettui degli accessi mirati tramite i MAC address sei già sistemato abbastanza bene.
So che è una protezione abbastanza illusoria, anche se con i normali software per il wardriving come netstrumbler ed altri non si riesce a risalire all'hidden sidd, pero' la mia era solo curiosita'...spero di riuscire a trovare un metodo chiedendo magari direttamente agli sviluppatori del codice.

ciao, anch'io nascondo l'ssid nel mio router, nel mio portatile la scheda wireless è l'ipw2200, come driver uso Wext, mi funziona solo questo, anche se ho visto che quando si usa ipw, c'è una riga che dice di usare wext che si trova all'interno del driver ipw comunque..., io risolvo il problema passando l'ssid con il comando iwconfig eth1 essid tuossid.
Io uso i driver ipw perche' ho un kernel "vecchio" 2.6.10.mentre dal 2.6.13 si mette il driver wext se cosi ho letto bene...
Se ho capito bene quello che vuoi dire è che prima di lanciare wpa_supplicat setti manulamnete il ssid?
il problema è che io il ssid l'ho gia settato correttamnte sia in /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf sia in /etc/rc.d/rc.wireless.conf quindi credo sia settato all'avvio dei demoni senza bisogno del comando che gli dai.
comunque provo il prima possibile cosi ti faccio sapere se funziona anche a me..se cosi fosse mi hai risolto un sacco di problemi

prima o dopo non fa differenza, anzi se per esempio tolgo l'essid a run-time mi cade la rete, perchè mi da hidden essid, appena lo passo a iwconfig la rete torna su.
In effetti è strano che si debba così mettere per 2 volte. Anch'io ho riflettuto su questa cosa

Voleva sapere da voi se il problema puo essere dato dal fatto che non riesco a calcolare la chiave wpa con "hexdump" oppure il problema puo essere dato dal fatto che uso i vecchi driver ipw e non wext visto che ho un kernel abbastanza vecchio?

Che versione di wpa_supplicant usi?.... anche se non è descriminante ho sempre visto l'hidden del ssid una cosa relativamente inutile. Comunque, il wpa_supplcant, nel suo conf to lo dovrebbe far specificare. Basta che lo poni li, e dovrebbe andarti bene. Il discorso di ipw e wext: sinceramente io non ho notato sta grande differenza, usandoli con una rete WPA-LEAP (rottura di scatole inutile, visto che è già noto da anni che è bucata, ma vallo a spiegare a quei capoccioni).
Uso wpa_supplicant-0.5.7.. purtroppo sulla mia rete ho abilitato la restrizione sui Mac, puo essere anche quello un motivo di impedimento per la scansione del AP da parte di wpa ?
SE il problema è dovuto solo al fatto della disabilitazione del broadcast ssid lo abilito subito... ma credo che anche la restrione sui mac mi nasconda in automatico il ssid.
Un altra cosa, nel file di configurazione che uso dovrei impostare ap_scan=1 o ap_scan=2 ?
Un ultima cosa...avendo un kernel un po vecchio 2.6.10 dovre usare come driver "ipw" al posto di "wext" ma se lancio il comando con ipw mi da errore e mio dice driver not supported..eppure appena installato andava con ipw invece adesso non ne vuole sapere

Il discorso è questo.... la dipendenza non viene dal kernel direttamente, ma dalle wireless extenction che ne derivano. Usando un kernel molto vecchio ai delle extenction vecchie. Alcune di queste infatti potrebbero non supportare il WPA o un particolare tipo di WPA (ES. TKIP o LEAP o EAP TLS.....) dipende anche da come è stato compilato il wpa_supplicant, e quali opzioni sono state attivate (o non attivate) nel file .config dello stesso. O potrebbe anche essere semplicemente sfiga.
