Kernel panic forever

Sto cercando di compilare il kernel ma ottengo sempre lo stesso errore.
In pratica seguo la guida presente tra gli howto usando menuconfig, caricando il config di Pat modificando soltanto il parametro riguardante il tipo di processorte da i486 a athlon.
Al riavvio ottengo sempre:
kernel panic - not syncing : vfs: unable to mount root fs on unknow block (3.2
Inoltre prima del kernel panic alsa non trova alcuna scheda audio.
Eppure io apro menuconfig:
vado su load an alternate config files.
apporto solo una modica.
save configuration to an alternate file.
Qualcuno può darmi qualche dritta, oggi ho già provato 3 volte ma il kernel panic mi perseguita.

Se hai formattato la tua partizione di root \ con reiserfs devi inserire il supporto a reiserfs in maniera statica non come modulo.

La mia partizione root infatti è formattata reiser. Mi direti come fare?
E per la scheda audio , come devo impostare alsa nel kernel?

Quando dai make menuconfig per ricompilare vai in File Sistem, qui cerca Reiserfs support e clicca sulla barra spaziatrice finchè non vedi un asterisco, cioè compilare staticamente.
Se il tuo problema è che non si avvia neanche il pc devi usare il cd di installazione e usare chroot, trovi tante quide a questo nel forum.
Per alsa non ti preoccuapare. una volta riavviato dai alsamixer per alzare i volumi, se ti da problemi dai prima alsaconf.

Finalmente non ottengo più kernelpanic, preso dall'entusiamo ho ricompilato anche l'ultimo kernel 2.16.6-rc5 (o qualcosa del genere), funziona però ho sempre il problema che la scheda audio non viene riconosciuta; alsaconf infatti non mi trova nessuna scheda audio, mentre facendo lspci mi viene rilevata come ensoniq (è una normalissima soundblaster pci 128).
Inoltre con il kernel test 2.6.13 funziona senza problemi quindi se uso il config di questo kernel perchè non mi viene riconosciuta?

guarda nel kernel se hai abilitato la scheda come modulo, puoi usare anche make xconfig, giusto per dare un'occhiata :

In advanced linux sound architecture è presente il segno di spunta quindi non dovrebbe essere caricato come modulo? Premendo M il segno di spunta cambia, dovrebbe bastare?

Se la scheda è supportata staticamente nel kernel,
è del tutto normale che alsaconf nn la trovi.
D'altro canto, per lo stesso motivo, se la supporti
nel kernel, non si vede perché dovresti configurarla
con alsaconf.

Se eseguo alsamixer ottengo:

Domani ricompilo con alsa come modulo e vi faccio sapere.

Scusate la latitanza, il mio problema è che non riesco a capire come fare ad attivare i moduli per la mia scheda video, in pratica oltre ad alsa che ho attivato come modulo, quali altre voci devo andare a toccare?
La scheda audio è la seguente:
