Sinceramente io con i font non ci ho mai capito granché, è un pò che cerco di capire come fungono sotto X ma non ho trovato mai nessuna guida esaustiva che mi spiegasse come fare le cose "terra-terra".

googlando un poco ho trovato un tizio che aveva gli stessi problemi risolti così :

Grazie ancora per i consigli, problema risolto. Scrivo qui di seguito la mia soluzione per chi con la nostra scheda video si imbattuto nel nuovo xorg facendo l'aggiornamento a lenny.
Nei nuovi kernel i driver xorg-xserver-video-intel e xorg-xserver-video-vesa dovrebbero essere già installati se no fare un'apt-get install.
Ho aperto il file xorg.conf
nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf e ho editato Driver "vesa" nella Section "Device" aggiungendo una riga prima EndSection:

Driver "vesa"

In questo modo i caratteri sono tornati normali però i driver Vesa non supportano ne accelerazione grafica ne si può modificare la risoluzione, quindi ho aperto kde e sono andato in centro di controllo, aspetto e temi, tipi di carattere e ho impostato "96 dpi" in "forza DPI per i caratteri. Poi sono tornato nel file xorg.conf e ho sostituito "vesa" con "intel" in questo modo funziona sia l'accelerazione grafica e si può modificare la risoluziuone.

In poche parole ho usato i driver vesa come muletto per andare a forzare i DPI e poi li ho sostituiti con quelli di intel.

Evidentemente vale solo per kde. Infatti lanciando xfce ho lo stesso problema.

Da quello che ho capito devo forzare i 96dpi in xorg.conf!

Volevo aggiungere che ho provato la versione live di Ubuntu e non ho problemi ma viene visto tutto come vesa!

Ho visto da un xorg.conf che si dovrebbe poter forzare i dpi a 96x96 semplicemente aggiungendo alla sezione Screen la seguente direttiva:

anche se alla fine l'xorg.conf era di un nvidia, non credo che questa opzione dipenda dalla scheda video in uso. Fai una prova e poi facci sapere.

Quindi nella sezione "Monitor" dovresti aggiungere
