Scelta driver ATI

Se avete problemi con l'installazione e la configurazione di Slackware postate qui. Non usate questo forum per argomenti generali... per quelli usate Gnu/Linux in genere.

Regole del forum
1) Citare sempre la versione di Slackware usata, la versione del Kernel e magari anche la versione della libreria coinvolta. Questi dati aiutano le persone che possono rispondere.
2) Per evitare confusione prego inserire in questo forum solo topic che riguardano appunto Slackware, se l'argomento è generale usate il forum Gnu/Linux in genere.
3) Leggere attentamente le risposte ricevute.

Scelta driver ATI

Ciao a tutti

Potete spiegarmi la differenza che c'è tra il file .run e il file .rpm dei driver ati?
Son la stessa cosa una volta installati o cambia qualcosa?
Se installo uno poi posso installare un altro

Inoltre su S4D ho trovato un altro link http://www.schneider-digital.de/ qualcuno ha provato questi driver?

Il run è l'autoinstallante, l'rpm va bene per le distribuzioni
che ne fanno uso, ma può essere installato come tale
anche in Slack (male) oppure convertito in tgz (bene).
Se installi il driver da uno dei due, perché mai vorresti
reinstallarlo anche dall'altro?

E' praticamente un anno che provo a far funzionare la scheda video, prima con la 10.2 (con 2 kernel diversi), ora son tornato di nuovo alla carica con la 11 (prima kernel .17 e poi .18 entrambi presi dal dvd di slack)

Ho provato sia col .run sia con l'rpm ( usando rpm2tgz -> sh make.sh ecc) seguendo sia l'howto sul sito sia leggendo la guida

Seguendo sempre la guida, mi sono assicurato che con glxinfo e fglrxinfo fosse tutto ok e così mi sembra, quindi credo rimanga solo lo xorg, ho fatto aticonfig --initial, ma niente, sul forum ho letto che aticonfig "sporca" lo xorg.conf e avendo letto di un utente che ha risolto modificando personalmente lo xorg senza fare aticonfig ci ho provato pure io ma niente l'accelerazione non parte

Ho fatto quella domanda perchè ho pensato che installando l'rpm (convertito in tgz) e vedendo che l'accelerazione non andava e una volta rimosso avesse comunque modificato dei file compromettendo anche l'installazione fatta con il run

Sinceramente credo di averle provate tutte, non so più dove andare a parare, mi piacerebbe risolvere questo problema per poter passare in modo definitivo a Slackware

Se vuoi ti posto i vari log, può essermi sfuggito qualcosa o quello che non sembra un problema in realtà lo è, non son un esperto :P

se usi i driver proprietari devi disabilitare
l'agp dal kernel e ricompilare, io uso i
driver del kernel e l'accelerazione grafica
mi va da dio, uso pure 3ddesktop...
uso i driver del kernel per vari motivi a dire
il vero, primo di tutti quello ideologico

allora S4D mi sembra dica la stessa cosa che mi dici tu ora, so come compilare un kernel, ma non so dove andare a mettere le mani

in parole povere quello che mi hai scritto è un po' arabo per me ^^"

Allora intanto mi dovresti dire che kernel usi, poi
ti do un consiglio, io ho istallato il kernel 2.6.17.13
dal dvd di slackware... tutti i tgz che si trovano in
/extra/linux-2.6.17.13 ti consiglio di seguire questa
guida http://www.slacky.it/wikislack/index.ph ... ria:Kernel
ovviamente ti sto dicendo come configurare senza
i driver proprietari ATI, ma con quelli del kernel, di
conseguenza disistalla i driver ATI se vuoi seguire
il mio consiglio... poi configura a modo xorg.conf
Ti incollo il mio così gli puoi dare un'occhiata...

no va benissimo anche quello di kernel,
ti consigliavo di passare al 2.6.x qualora
tu fossi rimasto con il 2.4.x di default...
per disistallare i driver proprietari ATI
da root vai sulla directory fglrx, che dovrebbe
essere /usr/share/fglrx e dai il comando

mi posti lsmod così vedo se carica i moduli giusti
altra cosa, nel frattempo per far partire X puoi usare
i driver vesa, dovrebbe funzionare.

ho visto che hai scelto un altra soluzione comunque ho letto nel tuo primo lsmod
agpgart 28208 2 fglrx,amd64_agp se il tuo cipset é amd64 tutto ok sennò era normale che l'accellerazione nn andava si è detto + volte che nel kernel bosogna selezionare come modulo solo il tuo cipset
