kernel 2.6.21.1 AIUTO

Non è la prima volta che ricompilo il kernel e ho sempre usato un metodo trovato qui su slacky che ha fatto sempre centro .... tranne questa volta, ecco che mi succede
scarico il kernel in /usr/src
lo decomprimo e nella directory che viene creata ci copio il config di pat
rm linux | ln -s linux-2.6.21.1 linuc
cd linux
make mrproper
make menuconfig
load an alternate configuration file e gli do il nome del config di pat
faccio le due modifiche che faccio sempre
save configuratio to an alternate file (in questo caso metto config-2.6.21.1)
qui succede che quando faccio exit non mi chiede vuoi salvare la nuova configurazione? (ed è qui che nasce l'intoppo, credo)
a questo punto se vado con make -j5 bzImage esce questo errore:

Mi pare che quando salvi su un altro file dopo non ti richiede di salvarla
Quindi prima del make fai
cp mio_config .config
make -j5 bzImage

Ciao. L'errore mi sembra chiaro. Non trova il file di config giusto e utilizza quello che trova, cioè quello precedente del kernel 2.6.18.
Perché non salvi la configurazione e DOPO ti vai a riprenderne una copia? La trovi in /usr/src/linux/.config. Così dovresti "aggirare" il tuo problema.
Ultima cosa, coi kernel 2.6.qualcosina il bzImage è superfluo, così come il make modules_install. Puoi compilare tutto con un semplice make.

non è superfluo è solo diverso... metti che vuoi compilare prima solo il kernel e poi i moduli... cioè quelli sono tag nel makefile, ognuno usa quelli di cui a bisogno...

magari se gli interessa, per qualsiasi motivo, può provare i miei pacchetti precompilati sul mio sito

Ciao il problema è che alcune opzioni del 2.6.18 non ci sono più nel 2.6.21.1 quindi ecco i warning che ti fuoriescono dopo il "load alternate configuration file"


nei sorgenti della current trovi il config per il 2.6.21, usa quello per configurarti il tuo e non quello del 2.6.18, eviti i warning ma non il fatto che non ti trovi il .config dopo...



ti ripeto i passi

make mrproper (che puoi evitare se stai compilando per la rpima volta, è una sorta di make clean)
make menuconfig
->load alternate configuratione file
->configuri
->exit (senza fare "save alternate configuration file" altrimenti non salva il .config ma il file alternativo che gli detti tu")

poi

make ( -j5 ??? limita a 5 il numero di thread simultanei per la compilazione, non vedo perchè!!! )
make modules_install

cp System.map /boot/System.map-sata-2.6.21.1
cp .config /boot/config-sata-2.6.21.1
cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-sata-2-6-21.1

aggiungi il record del nuovo kernel dentro lilo.conf

poi
lilo -t (per testare)
e
lilo -v (per scrivere se il test va a buon fine)


poi se ti va ti installi pure gli header del kernel in questione.. nel forum c'è di tutto e di più su come fare.

Boh! Io dopo quatro tentativi sono riuscito al quinto e l'unica modifica che ho fatto è stata solo quella delle gcc, forse la versione che avevo prima era in qualche modo corrotta. Ciao.
