Regole del forum
1) Citare sempre la versione di Slackware usata, la versione del Kernel e magari anche la versione della libreria coinvolta. Questi dati aiutano le persone che possono rispondere.
2) Per evitare confusione prego inserire in questo forum solo topic che riguardano appunto Gnu/Linux in genere, se l'argomento è specifico alla Slackware usate uno dei forum Slackware o Slackware64.
3) Leggere attentamente le risposte ricevute
4) Scrivere i messaggi con il colore di default, evitare altri colori.
5) Scrivere in Italiano o in Inglese, se possibile grammaticalmente corretto, evitate stili di scrittura poco chiari, quindi nessuna abbreviazione tipo telegramma o scrittura stile SMS o CHAT.

La non osservanza delle regole porta a provvedimenti di vari tipo da parte dello staff, in particolare la non osservanza della regola 5 porta alla cancellazione del post e alla segnalazione dell'utente. In caso di recidività l'utente rischia il ban temporaneo.

Continui riavvii del server X

Salve a tutti, ho la Slackware 12.1 con kernel 2.6.24-5 da me ricompilato, una ati radeon x700 con drivers proprietari aggiornati.

Da qualche tempo, circe 2 o 3 release dei drivers proprietari, capita che all'avvio, al momento di visualizzare la schermata di accesso di kdm il server X prenda a riavviarsi per circa una decina di volte a ciclo continuo.
Dopo di questo il sistema si stabilizza e il sistema diventa usabile.
Se invece avvio X da init 3 spesso X va in crash, tornando alla console. Appena riesco vedo di recuperare il contenuto dei log di X.

Oltre ad essere seccante, mi sembra anche poco normale (...).
Qualcuno ha qualche esperienza simile in merito e/o consigli su cosa possa essere a causare il problema?

Ad occhio e croce sembrerebbe qualcosa legato alle librerie Opengl ,quelle di Ati in questo caso (che novità! :evil: )
Prova anche a disabilitare AIGLX ,potrebbe essere anche il compositing video a dare problemi.
Se usi il il driver radeon di xorg o vesa succede la stessa cosa?
I driver fglrx sono spesso problematici.

Potrebbe anche essere un problema legato al metodo di accelerazione XAA.
Quando avevo una Ati, mi ricordo che c'era un altro metodo specificabile, EXA; magari sostituendolo a XAA qualcosa si aggiusta...
Posta xorg.xonf e prova magari pure a modificare qualche opzione...

Con i drivers open ovviamente non succede niente di simile.
Ho provato a disabilitare AIGLX, ma la situazione non cambia.
Domani provo gli altri tentativi suggeritimi.

Scusate se non mi sono più fatto vivo ma, come dicevo in un altro topic, sono entrato in tesi, per cui ho davvero poco tempo per giocherellare con X...
Il problema sembra essersi stabilizzato da quando ho disattivato AIGLX, per cui grazie dell'aiuto.
Non sono però riuscito ad utilizzare l'accelerazione EXA al posto di quella XAA, sapreste indicarmi dove documentarmi al riguardo?

Se non ti va, sospetto che i driver fglrx non siano compatibili con questo metodo.

Comunque sia ,se non vuoi troppi sbattimenti usa i driver Radeon di xorg aggiornati,ogni giorno fanno passi da gigante (con un kernel 2.6.26 visto che ci sono delle grosse migliorie nelle DRM del kernel) :thumbright:
