2.6.23.12: dopo ricompilazione sparisce eth1

Ciao a tutti, sto ricompilando il suddetto kernel per avere prestazioni più performanti sulla mia macchina.

Problema: ifconfig non trova più l'interfaccia eth1; quella di loopback è correttamente riconosciuta. eth0 non la uso più perchè è la scheda ethernet integrata del notebook che ha smesso di funzionare

Ora, eth1 è la suddetta scheda PCMCIA ethernet correttamente riconosciuta all'avvio (il led è acceso).

L'unica cosa che mi viene in mente è che non sia compilato il modulo del bus che ne consente l'interfacciamento!

Questo pare essere il bus della Intel per consentire l'interconnessione di varie periferiche alla mainboard. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMBUS ma non ho trovato ulteriori info in merito nel kernel.

Probabilmente il problema sarà altrove. La sezione Networking non l'ho ancora toccata. Chi ha più esperienza in merito? Ho già fatto numerose ricompilazioni ma non so più dove sbattere la testa. Se volete altre info chiedete pure.

ovviamente son partito dal config di pat ma quello della 12.
funziona sempre tutto ma manca il riconoscimento delle interfaccie eth* come ho detto. sto snellendo il kernel piano piano.
non è un problema di nomi delle schede e viene visualizzata solo l'interfaccia di loopback.
sarà che ho tolto troppa roba?

Sparo una fesseria al volo, dettata da una precedente esperienza e senza nessuna base scientifica:

Dato che la scheda dovrebbe esser stata riconosciuta correttamente e che ifconfig ti da solo l'interfaccia di loopback.

Prova a fare tante volte ifconfig ethx up con x compresa diciamo fra 0 e 10, magari la tua "vecchia" eth1 sia diventata eth3 oppure 4 o 5...

Mi è capitato, passando dal 2.6.21 al 2.6.23, che la scheda di rete da eth0 diventasse eth3.

Non ho guardato approfonditamente, ma io inizierei a compilare il driver giusto nella sezione Device Drivers -> Network Device -> PCMCIA network device, che a spanne sembra tu non abbia nemmeno attivato

A parte questo, vedo qualche imperfezione qui e la nel kernel.. gli darei un occhiatina se fossi in te.

grazie, puoi mica dirmi che tipo di imperfezioni hai notato? sai, sono un newbie della compilazione, mica come voi

proverò a compilare quel modulo, però non l'ho incluso perchè sono tutti introdotti da poco e la mia scheda funzionava già da prima senza quelli. anche se eth non è disponibile la scheda è accesa.

Mah mi sembra strano che funzionasse senza un modulo relativo... comunque, prima di dirtelo, devo sapere se hai un portatile o un desktop.

EDIT: dammi anche altre info sull'hardware. Che processore, etc. tutto quel che non posso vedere dall'lspci li sopra

Il problema era che non avevo compilato il modulo 8139too che veniva usato da mii per caricare le interfacce di rete

Ora ho altri problemini ma spero di cavarmela.
