La mia esperienza si riferisce ad una mobo Abit KT7A Raid, superstabile ed al tempo molto diffusa scheda basata su chipset VIA 133A.
Con i nuovi kernel 2.6.xx della slack 11 e 12 il sistema non ha più voluto saperne di spegnersi e toccava intervenire a manina sul pulsante di accensione, si sono inoltre presentati guai vari nella gestione degli IRQ, causati dalla non perfetta integrazione con ACPI e dal discreto numero di periferiche che affollano il mio bus PCI.
Sulla Slack 11 che ho in un disco separato avevo risolto ricompilando un kernel 2.6.20, partendo da quello base di Pat, disabilitando poi ACPI in append a LILO ed attivando l'APM in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules. Non so perché, ma con il 2.6.27 in dotazione alla Slack 12.2 che sto usando ora la cosa non mi è riuscita (sto ancora indagando...)
Ho pensato allora di affrontare la non più rinviabile questione di ACPI; alla fine credo di averla spuntata (il pc ora si spegne!!!).
Riassumo come, allegando anche un "pezzo" dell'output del "dmesg", in modo da ricevere qualche eventuale commento per una messa a punto più fine
1) Ho abilitato nell'Award BIOS della mobo la voce "PNP OS Installed".
2) Sempre nel BIOS ho settato a "NO" la voce: "PM Control by APM".
3) Ho rieditato rc.modules in modo da non far partire più il modulo APM, commentando la riga 190: # /sbin/modprobe apm.
4) Ho inserito in append a LILO la stringa seguente: append="acpi=noirq pci=noacpi vt.default_utf8=0"
