Exiting è uscito quando ho dato ctrl+c per fermare.

Se provo a copiare il contenuto del dvd su hd ci mette circo 18 minuti però non sembra dare problemi (sono arrivato al 25%), quindi il dvd dovrebbe leggerlo correttamente.
Qualcuno ha idea di cosa possa essere?
Avevo provato anche con altri player senza buoni risultati, ma questo prima dell'aggiornamento a current, quindi questa sera riprovo anche con VLC e vi faccio sapere cosa succede... graize per l'aiuto!

Praticamente dopo un po' mi appare la schermata iniziale con 'inizio film', 'seleziona scene', ecc. ma né con il mouse né da tastiera riesco a selezionare 'inizia film'.
Comunque un po' di errori ci sono, se qualcuno riesce ad interpretarli...

Ma lo fà solo con quel dvd questo saltellamento delle immagini oppure lo fà con tutti quelli che fai girare?

Sembra che vada in conflitto con qualcosa, inoltre lo scattare delle immagini potrebbe essere dovuto alla scheda video non ben configurata, magari il RenderAccel che non è proprio ben definito in xorg.conf. (butto lì le mie impressioni leggendo output degli errori e la tua descrizione).
La scheda video è una NVIDIA 8400, quindi l'ho configurata installando i driver nvidia 190.xx.
Altre modifiche non ne ho fatte (come faccio quando ho un scheda nvidia).
Ho provato un altro DVD con VLC e non da errori!
Strano, perché il primo DVD (quello che da errori sul computer di mio fratello) sul mio computer non da errori, quindi pensavo che non fosse il supporto.
Probabilmente il leddote DVD del computer di mio fratello non è il massimo...
Comunque anche sul secondo DVD il filmato va leggermente a scatti:
la CPU rimane intorno al 40/50%, swap non ne fa e con free vedo che su 1gb di ram ne usa 600mb.
Probabilmente la scheda video (che se non erro è una nvidia 8400 512mb) non ce la fa...
