salve è da un po' di mesi che sto sopportando la situazione di non poter sfruttare l'accelerazione 3d, ho visto che avviando alcune distribuzioni live funziona e sulla mia slackware installata no. vi posto il file di log di Xorg

ecco questo è quasi tutto il file Xorg.0.log, io vedo che dri viene corretamente caricato ma in realta non funziona e se provo ad avviare xdriinfo mi da segmentation fault.
io non mi so spiegare questa situazione, se qualcuno ha un idea di cosa può essere gli sarei molto grato.
non ne posso più di non utilizzare l'accelerazione 3d

ecco questo è quasi tutto il file Xorg.0.log, io vedo che dri viene corretamente caricato ma in realta non funziona e se provo ad avviare xdriinfo mi da segmentation fault.
io non mi so spiegare questa situazione, se qualcuno ha un idea di cosa può essere gli sarei molto grato.
non ne posso più di non utilizzare l'accelerazione 3d

ciao, la scheda video è una scheda integrata nella scheda madre del portatile della VIA con GPU S3 Unichrome Pro, e come si vede anche dal log uso il driver openchrome gia incluso in Xorg.
Nel file xorg.conf ho settato come driver "via", ho disattivato l'irq della scheda video, e attivato la dma dell'agp.
vi ho scritto le cose più importanti del file xorg.conf invece di postarlo perchè ora non sto usando il mio sistema.

Tempo fa con un vecchio portatile che montava una S3 avevo ottime prestazioni con quei driver. però io ho gia provato il driver vesa in quanto è quello predefinito di xorg.conf ma con pessime prestazioni e naturalmente non potrà supportare l'accelerazione 3d che a me interessa e che su altre distro funziona con lo stesso driver via che uso io.
per il driver savage invece, non va bene per la mia scheda che è una s3 unichrome e non una s3 savage

Strano! La Slackware supporta già (dalla versione 11) le S3 Unichrome Pro, per cui non è necessaria l'installazione del driver

Tutto ciò che bisogna fare è modificare opportunamente xorg.conf; in particolare, la Section "Device" dovrebbe avere questo aspetto:
Credo sia importante quell'opzione "EnableAGPDMA" ma, probabilmente, tu hai già impostato tutto correttamente; per cui ... boh ...
P.S. Se stai usando Slackware 11, ricordati che Pat aveva rilasciato degli aggiornamenti per Xorg; li puoi trovare qui: ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/s ... s/packages
(scarica tutti i pacchetti che iniziano per x11).
Con la Slackware 12 non ci dovrebbero essere problemi.

ciao, la mia installazione iniziale, a dire la verità era una 10.1, poi lho aggiornata con slapt-get alla 11 e ora di nuovo alla 12 sempre con slapt-get.
credo che così facendo si sia un po' zozzato il sistema anche se i file nella dir /etc li ho sistemati a mano cancellando quelli vecchi e rinonimando i .new.
comunque si, nel file xorg.conf ho gia attivato la dma dell'agp.
che problemi si possono avere nell'aggiornare il sistema come ho fatto io dalla 10.2 alla 11 alla 12 ??

Gli aggiornamenti così drastici creano sempre dei problemi, a meno di non essere dei veri esperti di Linux; nella Slacware 12 poi, in relazione a Xorg e a KDE, sono cambiati tutti i percorsi di installazione. Il rischio quindi è quello di rotrovarsi con un miscuglio di packages vecchi e nuovi.

ciao, quando ho installato gli aggiornamenti alla 12, ho disinstallato xorg e kde e cancellato le directory relative rimaste /opt/kde e /usr/X11R6 ed ho reinstallato quelli nuovi con i nuovi percorsi, poi ho creato dei collegamenti simbolici al posto dei vecchi percorsi per mantenere la compatibilità con i vecchi programmi che avevo installato. per funzionare funziona, infatti l'accelerazione 3d non mi funziona più gia da prima di aggiornare alla 12
