driver nvidia quale scegliere?

ma a proposito del tema driver, non c'era anche un progetto qualche tempo fa per creare dei driver per schede nvidia open-source? e che fine ha fatto quel progetto?penso che sarebbe molto utile avere anche altre opzioni per le schede nvidia, voi sapete qualcosa a riguardo ;)

sarebbe bello anche che qualcuno rifinisse lo slackbuild per l'installazione di questi drivers in modo da avere un'installazione pulita.

io nn ho notato molti cambiamenti con i vari driver che ho provato.
mi sembra strano che con la mia skeda abbia solo 1400 FPS, avendo 128 mb dedicati e 128 shared quindi 256. con win mi va molto bene e la mia vecchia Geforce 4 con 64 mb mi dava 2500 3000 FPS.
sono convinto che ci sia qualcosa che nn va..
nessuno ha una geforce 7300?

Personalmente, come si è capito dagli altri post, neanch' io ho molto chiaro il discorso driver NVidia.
Inutile dirti, comunque, che i FPS, dipendono anche da quanto grande si apre la finestra relativa a GLXGears.
Quindi, in teoria, cambiando la risoluzione dello schermo e/o le dimensioni della finestra con gli ingranaggi, i risultati si stravolgono!

A proposito di driver nvidia ... volevo sapere se si può attivare il direct rendering anche con il driver "nv" ... su un portatile con la ati 9200 Mobility sono riuscito a farci girare compiz ... ma con i driver nv su un miniQ (nForce2) niente da fare ...

Visto che avevo 10 minuti di tempo, ho scaricato l'ultimo kernel, 2.6.22.9 e ho proceduto alla sua compilazione.

Se non sbaglio la tua scheda non e' supportata dai driver piu' recenti, ma solo da quelli fino alla serie 1.0-96xx.

Esatto, ora è considerata "GPU Legacy" e quindi non più supportata nelle versioni 100.xx.
Approfitto per notare che nel sito italiano di nvidia hanno fatto parecchia confusione (e parecchi errori!) riguardo all'indicazione delle GPU supportate dalle varie versioni dei driver.
Inoltre al momento non sono neanche aggiornati: sul sito internazionale ci sono le versioni legacy rilasciate il 18 settembre che dovrebbero risolvere alcuni bachi delle precedenti. Vale la pena di provarle se si ha una di queste non nuovissime schede.

In effetti il fatto che una versione più recente non supporti schede vecchie, mi sembra una grande stupidaggine.
A parte questo, almeno non dovrebbe succedere che nel log appaia un errore nel quale si insinui che manchino i sorgenti del kernel.
Personalmente non mi ero mai accorto che versioni nuove del driver non supportassero schede come la Geforce 4.
Pensavo fosse un problema del kernel.
Vabbeh, come sono solito dire: "BEATA IGNORANZA".
E visto che sto rispondendo a voi, beviamoci sopra un paio di SPRITZ!!

Anch'io come albatros : 9755 su geforce fx 5200 :)
ho provato gli ultimi ma sinceramente non sono poi così performanti, probabilmente gli ultimi sono ideali per chi ha schede nvidia di ultima generazione, per le mie esigenze questo driver è più che sufficiente ;)
