Va bene, apprezzo la tua disponibilità.
Purtroppo non ho mai utilizzato la messaggistica istantanea e non so come funziona, anche se penso che via pm potrebbe essere sufficiente, ma vedremo un attimo al momento allora.

Non ho provato con altri kernel per ora, anche perchè non ho un'esigenza veramente necessaria...anche se avere qualche possibilità di utilizzare il mio hw sotto linux non mi dispiacerebbe...però prima di provare altri kernel o roba simile voglio provarle tutte....proseguiamo:

la configurazione dei moduli è corretta!
il modulo radeon è caricato e anche le dipendenze da esso.

nel log di xorg non ci sono le voci relative al caricamento del driver radeon?
sennò è un po strano che non funzioni.

non saprei dove cercare il problema perchè non esiste dalle informazioni che posti!

a parte il problema della ventola, X viene avviato con il modulo radeon o devi mettere l'altro xorg?

Ti ho postato due log di X: il primo era figlio dell'avvio di X con l'xorg.conf vecchio (quello silenzioso), però mi pare che non avvii i radeon ma i vesa (giustamente).
Il secondo invece è quello con il nuovo xorg.conf impostato come da guida ed in effetti avvia i radeo (e laventola si mette a girare all'impazzata).
Quindi direi che per vedre le voci radeon nel file di log devo mettere il nuovo xorg.conf.

lasciamo stare l'xorg vecchio che attiva il vesa, noi dobbiamo far andare il nuovo con le impostazioni che hai seguito nella guida.

da root intendo: prova ad avviare da root X e non con il tuo utente e verifica l'installazione e il funzionamento del driver.

lasciamo stare anche (per ora) il problema della ventola, quello dovrebbe essere un bug del driver presumo, in ogni caso se usi KDE puoi all'avvio cambiare risoluzione dal centro di controllo.

Per quanto rigarda poi l'avviio da root, mi sono loggato dall'inizio come root, ho dato starx e via....
ma il direct render dice sempre NO.

Il problema della ventola accantoniamolo pure, ma solo temporaneamente, perchè è determinante....anche ora, per intenderci ho avviato X col vecchio xorg perchè il rumore mi rimbamabisce

Va bè, fammi sapere se c'è qualcosa che non va nell'xorg.conf postato. Se è corretto posso provare a giocarmi la carta radeonpatch.
A proposito di questa patch, per installarla faccio l'upgrade, ma per rimuoverla e tornare ai driver vecchi eventualmente come si fà? Scusa l'ignoranza...

Aggiungo che tempo addietro avevo tentato l'installazione dei driver proprietari, che però non era andata a buon fine. Durante le operazioni preliminari avevo seguito una guida che consigliava di mettere in blacklist o comunque sostituire un modulo con un altro (ora non ricordo di preciso e non ho più la guida sottomano..) però dal lsmod che ti ho postato problemi di quel genere non se ne vedono mi pare di capire...quindi non c'è da preoccuparsi giusto?

potresti provare ad aggiornare dal file di UPGRADE.TXT se non vuoi reinstallare. dubito che altri tentativi funzionino.

È molto probabile.
Ma da questa tua osservazione ne deduco che l'xorg.conf che t'ho postato è corretto, almeno stando alla guida.
Quindi a questo punto potrei ancora provare con l'upgrade ai driver patchati. Giusto?
(scusa ma non mi hai risposto però, in merito all'eventual eritono ai driver radeon non patchati....prima di fare qualcosa vorrei essere capace di tornare indietro

potresti provare ad aggiornare dal file di UPGRADE.TXT se non vuoi reinstallare. dubito che altri tentativi funzionino.

Ancora una volta la mia ignoranza in ,ateria di slackware emerge....cosa significa aggirnare dal file UPGRADE.TXT?

A monte di tutto ciò, ma cosa ha la 12 che la 11.0 non ha?
Hai una spiegazione razionale al fatto che i radeon/12 fungono mentre gli /11 no?
Oppure non si sa perchè, ma funziona e ce ne stiamo?
È solo curiosità, ma sai, mi sono affezionato a questa distro e non vorrei proprio passare alla 12. Di certo mi rode un po' anche non poter usare la scheda video che a suo tenpo ho pagato profumatamente.

Farei più facilmente delle prove su una partizione ad hoc. Ma hosolo 40GB e 20 li occupa ancora XP, anche se in effetti non lo avvio da circa 6 mesi se non ricordo male (ma sono quelle cose che prima oppoi servono sempre...almeno se hai a che fare con gente che lo usa...insomma potrebbe tornarmi utile).
Poi circa 10 GB erano di Fedora4 (prima distro) e poi c'è la slack su 8 GB circa....potrei togliere fedora e mettere slack12, ma c'è grub tra i piedi e non vorrei trovarmi senza la posibilità di avviaare la macchina....
Insomma finche non mi decido all'acquisto di un bell'hd da 120 (Se ci sta...), non posso permettermi troppe prove.

se non ricordo male i radeon patchati li installi con il comando

e rimuovi con il classico removepkg.

ad ogni modo se non vuoi aggiornare alla 12 non saprei, io l'unica spiegazione che mi sono dato è che aggiornando alla versione modulare di X la slackware 11 avrei potuto risolvere, ma non avevo poi provato la cosa.

se non hai voglia di aggiornare alla 12 allora fatti dei test su una partizione di prova come hai detto, magari aggiornando X.
