so che questo argomento è stato trattato tantissime volte, ma proprio non riesco ad installarlo sul mio portatile!!
Ho seguito le varie guide su internet, ho seguito il wiki ma non funziona!!!
Qualcuno può gentilmente darmi una mano?? [-o<

Il problema è sulla scheda video (ATi 7500)... mi dice che ci sono problemi sulla GLX e sull'accelerazione 3D...
Ma l'ho configurata esattamente come dice il wiki...
Vorrei iniziare da capo l'installazione... se qualcuno mi assiste!!!

per usare compiz la scheda video (o comunque il driver) deve supportare tutte le estensioni opengl e dal tuo glxinfo si vede

lo stesso problema io l'ho riscontrato su una via unichromesulla quale è impossibile (per quanto ne so) attivare compiz.

nel tuo caso il problema credo sia il fatto che stai usando i driver open source per le ati che non funzionano con compiz e quindi dovresti installare quelli closed source ufficiali della ati scaricabili dal loro sito.

ne approfitto per dire che ieri ho caricato la nuova versione di compiz fusion (la 0.7.6) sul mio sito ( http://sya54m.altervista.org ) e una novità che ho notato riguardo i plugin è che il cubo, ormai troppo nel gergo comune, può diventare un cilindro o una sfera

gli script per avviare Compiz, anche questi copiati dalla 12, avevano malfunzionamenti, allora ho installato Compiz Fusion Icon, l'ho lanciato in Xfce e tutto è andato liscio;
le uniche pecche sono che come al solito googleearth non va e che in KDE Compiz non parte -quest'ultima cosa l'ho provata in Debian, nella Slack non mi azzardo, dato che di norma uso KDE e non vorrei correre il rischio di incasinarlo;

I driver per la mia scheda video non sono più disponibili sul sito ATi (la 7500 mobility) e quindi ho dovuto usare quelli open che sono nel kernel...

Per quanto riguarda Compiz... Sono sicuro che gira sul mio IBM T40, perchè l'avevo installato su Ubuntu 7.10 e andava perfettamente!!

Volevo iniziare l'installazione da zero... forse così riesco a farlo partire, ma vorrei che voi mi aiutaste...

nel tuo caso il problema credo sia il fatto che stai usando i driver open source per le ati che non funzionano con compiz e quindi dovresti installare quelli closed source ufficiali della ati scaricabili dal loro sito.

non ho mai visto errori del genere senza motivo, prova ad incollare l'output della shell... non ho capito qual'è il problema...

ok scusa, non avendo una ati mi sono affidato a ciò che ho letto in rete tempo fa, comunque riguardo alle estensioni opengl si vede che cè un problema e se non sbaglio sulla documentazione di compiz dice che devono essere supportate tutte per poterlo usare...

Quali errori ti dà di preciso compiz? Se non ce lo dici facciamo un po' fatica a capire.
Un'altra cosa: ti servono proprio tutte le opzioni che hai specificato per il driver radeon in xorg.conf?
Mi riferisco a queste:

Spesso non è necessario specificare alcunché e, in alcuni casi, l'override manuale di queste opzioni può portare più problemi che altro.
Io proverei a commentarle tutte e ad attivarne una alla volta per vederne l'impatto.

Se può essere di aiuto avevo una radeon 8250 che funzionava solo con i driver open. Non ho mai usato compiz ma ricordo che in qualche forum/wiki/sito leggevo che le ati non supportano (o supportano male) l'AGPFastWrite, io l'ho sempre tenuto disabilitato e non ho mai avuto problemi.

Anzi, adesso che ci penso, compiz l'avevo provato su ubuntu e funzionava alla grande.
