Problema ati radeon x1650 pro Slackware 12.1

Se avete problemi con l'installazione e la configurazione di Slackware postate qui. Non usate questo forum per argomenti generali... per quelli usate Gnu/Linux in genere.

Regole del forum
1) Citare sempre la versione di Slackware usata, la versione del Kernel e magari anche la versione della libreria coinvolta. Questi dati aiutano le persone che possono rispondere.
2) Per evitare confusione prego inserire in questo forum solo topic che riguardano appunto Slackware, se l'argomento è generale usate il forum Gnu/Linux in genere.
3) Leggere attentamente le risposte ricevute.
4) Scrivere i messaggi con il colore di default, evitare altri colori.
5) Scrivere in Italiano o in Inglese, se possibile grammaticalmente corretto, evitate stili di scrittura poco chiari, quindi nessuna abbreviazione tipo telegramma o scrittura stile SMS o CHAT.

Problema ati radeon x1650 pro Slackware 12.1

Salve a tutti!

Ho un pc fisso (Pentium 4, 2.0 Ghz, 1 Gb di ram...) su cui ho installato Slackware 12.1 e ho tentato di configurare la scheda video, una sapphire ati radeon x1650 pro 512 Mb DDR2... Ho scaricato il driver proprietario per le ati della serie 1600 (il file si chiama "ati-driver-installer-8-8-x86.x86_64.run") dal sito http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html... Le uniche cose che ho fatto sono state quelle di modificare in un primo momento il file /etc/X11/xorg.conf (tramite il comando 'xorgconfig') mettendo i driver ati generici, quando non avevo ancora il driver proprietario (non l'avessi mai fatto): il risultato? andava solo la risoluzione 640x480...

Successivamente dopo aver scaricato il driver, ho modificato il file /etc/inittab in modo da far partire la Slackware in init3 (modalità testuale)... A questo punto ho fatto partire il file .run tramite

sh nome_file.run
...ho completato l'installazione con successo e ho dato uno 'startx'... Risultato? Il sistema non si avvia e il pc rimane fermo lì con lo schermo tutto nero...
Ho provato a riavviare, ma niente da fare... Sicuramente avrò sbagliato qualcosa, data la mia inesperienza su queste cose, nonchè la fretta...

Ho formattato e rimesso su la Slackware e non ho toccato più i driver, ovvero ho lasciato il video così com'era...

Spero che qualcuno possa darmi una mano!!! Grazie anticipatemante!!!

dopo aver installato i driver devi dare il comando aticonfig....L'installer te lo dice...

Ciao,

ho dato 'aticonfig' ma dopo aver terminato l'installazione, dato 'startx', aver riavviato il pc (perchè si era piantato con lo schermo nero) ed essermi loggato di nuovo in init3... Che sia per quello? Voglio dire, non avendo dato il comando 'aticonfig' prima di dare 'startx' e riavviare, è possibile che abbia fatto danni???

No se hai dato aticonfig in init4 dovrebbe partire la modalità grafica senza problemi, che tu lo dia subito dopo aver completato l'installazione o dopo 2 mesi....Prova a partire in init4 (invece di init3 + startx) e posta lo xorg.conf

Ho provato a installare il driver da root in modalità grafica... Come al solito mi dice che l'installazione è avvenuta con successo... In seguito ho dato

e ho riavviato il pc, ma purtroppo il problema persiste ahimè... Il pc è di nuovo inutilizzabile...

Per sicurezza, prima di installare il driver ho creato un file di backup di xorg.conf tramite:

cp /etc/X11/xorg /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
in modo da poter ripristinare l'xorg nel caso in cui i driver non avessero funzionato... Solo che non so come ripristinarlo e non so come disinstallare i driver senza "sporcare" il sistema e soprattutto senza dover formattare di nuovo :cry:

P.S. Comunque ho visto di sfuggita che durante l'avvio del sistema, nelle varie stringhe, il modulo fglrx sembra essere caricato correttamente...

Se riesco ad accedere al sistema con una distro live (es. knoppix) ti posto anche l'xorg.conf dopo l'installazione del driver ati e anche quello prima dell'installazione (avendone fatto il backup) se vuoi...

Per ripristinare il tutto (i driver restano installati ma non fa nulla) fai cosi: accedi al pc utilizzando il dvd di installazione di slackware, una volta esguito il boot esegui i comandi:

mkdir /mnt/disk
mount /dev/hda1(o la tua partizione di /) /mnt/disk
chroot /mnt/disk
mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf
cosi torna come era prima dell installazione, poi apri /etc/inittab e torni al runlevel 3, riavvii il sistema
esegui il programma xorgsetup
reinstalli i driver
esegui aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
esegui startx

cosi dovrebbe andare, comunque se riesci posta gli xorg.conf

Il file xorg.conf attuale (modificato dall'installer ATI) sembra in ordine.
Posta il contenuto di /var/log/Xorg.0.log, dopo aver tentato di avviare X.

se vuoi un mio consiglio (dettato dall'esperzienza) e' inutile continuare a modificare all'infinito xorg.conf
io ho risolto modificando il bios (ho una scheda x1600 che dovrebbe essere molto simile alla tua)

dal bios vai su advanced chipset memory
poi agpmemory
e setta il valore a quello della memoria della scheda

nel mio caso sarebbero 512mb, ma il bios non lo permette
se cosi fosse metti il valore massimo consentito piu' vicino

al prossimo riavvio dovrebbe ripartire il tutto

ti posto comunque il mio xorg.conf

Salve a tutti,

ho provato a vedere nel bios ma non trovo quella voce... L'unica cosa che ho trovato è l'impostazione iniziale dello schermo, in cui si può scegliere fra 'agp' e 'pci'... Di default l'ipostazione è su 'agp'... Altro non saprei dirvi...

Si, è la prima volta che mi capita di dover installare i driver ATI proprietari... No non ho provato a installare versioni precedenti... Al limite potrei provare a cercare un driver un po' più vecchio e installarlo al posto di questo... Se non va però, sinceramente non saprei cosa fare, anche perchè non riesco a capire la causa di questo malfunzionamento del driver... :-k
