[RISOLTO] Scheda Video i915!

Salve a tutti!

Dopo una settimana di studio ( sono un principiante ) arrivo alla configurazione della scheda video.
Come da titolo, ho un chip grafico integrato intel 915 su un portatile 4020 della acer.

Senza alcuna impostazione, il server grafico fa veramente paura. Le finestre appaiono con una lentezza sconvolgente. Cercando sul forum ho trovato questo post

All'interno di un link leggo "Richiede la patch "915resolution" per avere la risoluzione di 1280x768 e gli snapshot dei DRI per abilitare il direct rendering. "
Confesso che per me è arabo.

Ho capito che devo installare i driver per la mia scheda video e che altro ?

Qualcuno potrebbe spiegarmi, o darmi qualche link, il funzionamento degli snapshop DRI ( cosa sono ) ?
Come faccio a vedere se il driver è già in uso ?

In Xorg.conf non ho purtroppo utili indicazioni.

All'interno di un link leggo "Richiede la patch "915resolution" per avere la risoluzione di 1280x768 e gli snapshot dei DRI per abilitare il direct rendering. "

915 resolution lascialo perdere, serve per il framebuffer, la risoluzione dovrebbe essere attivata dal server grafico.
Naturalmente non partire in framebuffer.

Per xorg.conf devi avere una parte con
driver = "intel"

posta l'output di questo comando

Il driver da caricare in xorg.conf dovrebbe essere l'i810. Guarda questo link:

E' il man del tuo driver, ti spiega come farlo caricare ad xorg.conf (nella sezione "Device" inserendo "Driver i810") e tutte le ottimizzazioni che puoi fare con sulla tua scheda. Il man dovresti averlo anche in locale lanciando

Ciao Conraid ( sei sempre presente, grazie).

Nella sezione device di xorg.conf ho vesa in ogni punto.

Questo perchè quando ho lanciato xorgconfig ( S4D docet ) non era presente la mia scheda, bensi la i810. Quindi sono

andato avanti con un "generico" per evitare di fare danni.

Anche il Frame buffer è vesa.

Ma perchè dici che non mi serve ? Puoi chiarimi la cosa ?

A quanto ho capito la mia scheda non compare nei settaggi di xorg. Ma perchè ? Come faccio a vedere se sono presenti i driver nel kernel ? E sotto forma di modulo ? lsmod mi da un insieme di intel_agp ma nulla riguardo alla mia scheda!

Questo dirà al server X di caricare il modulo i810, ovvero quello gestisce correttamente la tua scheda video, per ora usi il driver "vesa", che a sua volta usa il frame buffer.

Ho provato, ma non basta!

Nel senso che la risoluzione è effettivamente migliore. Ma vedo solo una parte dello schermo con dei caratteri giganteschi.

me lo faceva anche a me con un notebook. Sia con Slackware sia con Ubuntu.
Per non perdere tempo misi su una backtrack2 (l'unica che mi visualizzava tutto correttamente, bada bene la 2, la 3beta non andava) e presi xorg.conf da li.

Naturalmente sistemando il tuo xorg.conf arrivi alla stessa soluzione.

Per il framebuffer, le schede intel non supportano sempre le risoluzioni wide (nemmeno la mai x3100) e quindi bisogna usare 915patch, da usare sempre al boot tramite initrd. Sinceramente faccio a meno del frame buffer, tanto sul notebook uso sempre X

Ho rilanciato xorgconfig e rifatto la procedura.

Adesso lo startx mi dice : Fatal server error. No screen found!

Il mio schermo ha una risoluzione massima di 1280x800 pixels. Quindi ho dovuto segare le superiori.

Effettivamente in xorg.conf manca la sezione screen. Dove sbaglio ?

Forse è una questione di risoluzione, invece di 1024x768, prova a mettere 1280x800, sempre se è quella la risoluzione del tuo schermo. Oppure adotta la soluzione di conraid, anche se....

Ho seguito i vostri consigli.

Oltre ad alcuni warning, posso dire che finalmente il server grafico parte.

L'unica cosa è che continuo a vedere questi caratteri giganti che non mi fanno lavorare. Non so perchè. Prima avevo Ubuntu.

Posso provare a lanciare la live e vedere xorg.conf. Non mi viene in mente nulla.
