Allora, l'opzione, da mettere sotto "Monitor" dovrebbe essere:per un monitor 1280x800 di risoluzione. Questo "dovrebbe", e sottolineo dovrebbe, impostare il dpi a 96.

Ma le frequenze del monitor dove le hai prese?
Sono corrette?
Inoltre prova a riportare il tuo Xorg.0.log dopo aver
avviato X con una configurazione "funzionante".
Mi è capitato più volte di inserire frequenze errate
con conseguente corruzione dello schermo.

L'Intel i915GML funziona alla perfezione, e possiede un accellerazione grafica (Direct Rendering) molto potente.
Per far andare la risoluzione di 1280x768 occorre usare la patch del BIOS 915resoluzion. Una volta scompattato il file, troverete un file eseguibile "915resoluzion". Bisogna attivarlo al BOOT ad esempio inserendo il seguente comando in rc.local, e copiando l'eseguibile in /usr/bin/915resolution.
Il problema verrà fissato a breve nel nuovo xorg.

Queste due opzioni le puoi eliminare dal tuo xorg.confper le seguenti motivazioni trovate nel tuo log
Perchè invece di 1280x768 non provi a dare 1280x800?

Ho editato il post precedente. La sezione non è "Monitor" come avevo detto all'inizio, ma "Device" come ho modificato ora, infatti è un opzione del driver della tua scheda video. Sembra che molti hanno trovato questa soluzione per problemi analoghi al tuo.
