Ho provato ad inserire l'URI durante la config della stampante come hai detto, ovvero smb://claudio:password@P3/EPSON ma poi quando torno nella schermata della stampante come URI continua a risultare Device URI: smb://P3/EPSON e l'errore ancora "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...ERROR: SMB tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED" 
Ma perchè cosa c'entra
, e allora potrebbe essere qui il problema dato che sto file manco sapevo di averlo

cambiare workgroup = MYGROUP
in workgroup = WORKGROUP
puoi anche tentare di cambiare
ma tanto per fare qualcosa ...
dal sever P3 dovresti riuscire a vedere il Linux P5
a proposito che slackware stai usando e che Samba ... alcune versioni erano bacate proprio sull' autenticazione del client..
Prova a vedere se sei il fortunato possessore di versione bacata, tentando di sfogliare una directory condivisa con kde...
.... la soluzione del printer server si avvicina

Ho samba-2.2.12_1
Questa prova l'avevo già fatta e stranamente da windows non riesco a vedere il server su linux, anche windows fa parte del gruppo "workgroup" eppure vedo solo lui.
Sono le uniche modifiche che ho fatto .. ho lanciato smbd, serve altro ?

Attualmente sono molto impegnato .. e lo sarò un pò, posso dedicare a slacky, poco tempo...
secondo me dovrestri riguardate tutte le impostazione di rete dei vari PC
prova inoltre ad attivare swat, che fornisce un interfaccia web per configurare samba
per far questo devi editare il file /etc/inetd.conf
e decommentare la riga contente #swat ...
riavviare con un
killall -HUP inetd
poi con un browser va su http://localhost:901 e con l'account di root puoi accederee puoi configurare agevolmente samba, e fare i test che vuoi.

Prova ad attivare l' utente guest sul server WXP forse la crittografia della password non viene riconosciuta correttamente.. e così dovrebbe funzionare

Non é che hai il firewall attivato su Windows...? se si prova a disattivarlo ..
Ma che slackware stai usando ? , non sarà mica un problema di samba 2.2.12 ??
prova ad utilizzare una knoppix recente per vedere se hai gli stessi problemi
Se non riesci bisogna ... fare il punto della situazione con versioni e service pack.
Ho configurato decine di volte stampanti rete e ti devo dire che con W95 W98 WME in genere non si hanno grossi problemi ... il più delle volte sono i w2000 e WXP che anche tra di loro non riescono a parlare e ogni tanto smettono di funzionare per motivi ignoti ... riconfigurando poi la stampante sul server e successivamente, riagganciando la stampante sui client, si riottiene un sistema funzionante, che puntualmente é destinato prima o poi a sganciarsi ... se si vuole essere sicuri del risultato, ovvero un servizio di stampa un minimo affidabile, attualmente invece di condividere la stampante sotto tali Sistemi (..non) Operativi utilizzo printer server..
Altrimenti i clienti mi chiamano ogni tre giorni... o ogni volta che debbono stampare le fatture ...
